Summer Vacation is Over

In order to get myself back into shape as an artist, I've decided to start up a little project for myself.  Something fun and not too serious.  The plan is to design one badge, or icon, every week for the next 48 weeks.  I'm still working out the rules, but they will be small, 4" x 4" max.  They have to look good scaled down, so simple is key.  I'm thinking black and white only, but that could change.  Subject matter is totally up for grabs and will end up being whatever I feel like drawing.  I am, however, open to suggestions.  Perhaps they will combine into a larger project, maybe not.

I am right now setting a date for the first to be presented, so grab your calendars.  I've settled on Friday, August 6th.  In the meantime I will also be tinkering with this site.  I plan to start up on twitter(again for the first time), and to get my flickr photostream up and running.  Both of these will be accessible right from this very web page.

Stay tuned.

The Switch

My free Squarespace web hosting trial is already at an end.  I've barely begun to play around, but even in the short time i have spent using the interface I can tell this is a major improvement for me.  Ease of use is very important.  Without it, I procrastinate.  Without it, I procrastinate more.  Its quite possibly an exponential relationship.

The only downside of switching the site over now is cost.  You may notice the site address is now fishorb.squarespace.com rather than fishorb.com.  This is due to the fact that I simply do not want to invest in a more expensive hosting plan right now.  Other site features are off limits too until I upgrade.  This isn't ideal.  It is a tradeoff.  If, however, in the future I find enough income can be generated to allow the site to support itself, I certainly will make the jump to improve and expand the site.

For the immediate future, posting some art is next on the agenda.

Welcome to my new site!

My days of attempting to learn Wordpress are coming to a close.  I am moving my site here to Squarespace in order to eliminate the built-in excuse of "first I need to format my site, which means learning to build custom Wordpress themes."  Content must become king, and in order for that to happen all distractions and excuses must disappear.

Over the next few weeks I will be learning about the Squarespace interface and tweaking the site into something I can enjoy posting content to.  It will not be perfect and I will not be 100% satisfied, but the key is I will not be spending countless hours avoiding opening that library copy of Wordpress for Dummies and instead will be writing, drawing, and creating.
